Anyone who knows me is probably aware that I’ve got quite eclectic music tastes, but I’m definitely not one of those writers who can happily bash away at a computer writing whilst there’s music playing – put that down to years playing guitar in covers bands and the annoying habit of having to stop what I’m doing so I can try to work out chords! However, I find that my writing is certainly influenced by music.
Whilst writing White Gold, there were two scenes in particular which were helped along by songs going round and round in my head.
Firstly, the scene where Dan walks up the steps to the antagonist’s house and there’s a party going on. Cue the intro to Stereo MC’s “Traffic”.
Secondly, there’s a scene near the end (for those who haven’t read White Gold yet I won’t give the game away – but what are you waiting for?!), where Karnivool’s “Sound Awake” fits perfectly. Those who have read White Gold are free to use the comments option below to tell me if they identify which scene.
Finally, the latest book has a scene which is currently being swayed by Grinspoon’s track “Passerby”. Both the track and the scene rock!!
Bear with me while I sign off here and work out that riff…
